Have you ever heard the expression “it is what it is”? What does that expression mean exactly?
Before I understood the deeper meaning of the expression, I envisioned an emaciated yogi guru in the lotus position floating above the floor imperiously imparting wisdom that will take scholars multiple lifetimes to interpret. Since how this really is my last life on earth and the lotus position would put me in traction, I knew that consulting the Course In Miracles would help me clarify its meaning.
What’s the IT that we are writing about here? Based on the Course in Miracles, IT is truth, specifically God’s truth. Exactly why is it crucial that you emphasize that it’s God’s truth? Because God’s the fact is not open to interpretations whereas a human’s truth is acim. Multiple versions of human truth have result in an array of religions. The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia defines religion as a “system of thought, feeling, and action that’s shared with a group and that offers the members an item of devotion.”
Who devised the machine of thought? On whose feelings are these thoughts based? Are actions really necessary? Based on the Course In Miracles, God just is and our ultimate goal is to come back to an ideal state of being. There is no thought or action in their state of being, you only are. What must not be forgotten is the underlying thread of religions: God is creator, God is love and we’re all perfect and infinite children of God.
Put another way, “it is what it is” can be rewritten to “God’s love is the only truth and it is absolute” and this truth knows no bounds and is timeless.Business
